Garden and Fields

Join us in picking perfectly ripe fruits

and vegetables for our field to table meals

Our fields and gardens are lush and beautiful, filled with flowers and interspersed with quiet areas to relax and enjoy the setting

Small family farms dot the countryside of Transylvania, creating a tactile tapestry over the undulating terrain near Harvest House Transylvania. Some have tractors and other farming equipment, but most are tended by hand using century old techniques.  We do the same here at our farm.

  • Seed planting starts in the greenhouse early March

  • Onions, garlic, carrots, lettuce, potatoes are planted in April

  • Seedlings are big enough to plant in the ground in early May

  • Blooming trees provide flowers for teas and juices in mid May

  • Greenhouse tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers are ready to eat in June

  • Roses are in full bloom starting in June

  • Cherries, peaches, plums are ready to eat in June

  • There's a constant flurry of field activity in June and July

  • Field harvests start in August and go through October

  • Wine making is between September and October

Big, tasty, sweet tomatoes from Transylvania
Tomatoes

Basa Ervin's tomatoes are to die for.  Big, sweet, full of flavor, not like anything you've ever tasted.  You never get tired of them!

A staple of Transylvanian cuisine, we make pickled cabbage for our delicious stuffed cabbage meal.

Orange roses in Transylvania
Roses

"Roses bring beauty to the world" is a traditional Transylvanian saying.  We have over 100 rose bushes in our gardens.

Yellow Tulips in Transylvania
Tulips

Very traditional motif for Romanian and Hungarian wood carvings.  We're awash in tulips in Aril and May.
