Some of our Seasonal Activities

Hungarian Gulyas
Come join us in making traditional style gulyas in a large cauldron over an open fire. Gather and prepare ingredients from our fields and help make this true guest favorite.

Tour a Rural Village
A real eye opening experience! See first hand traditional ways of life virtually unchanged for generations. Visit a peasant home, learn about the Gypsy culture, experience a Maramures wooden church, and see the difference between Hungarian, Romanian and Gypsy cemetaries!

Preserves and Jams
Have you noticed all the pickled cabbage, peppers, cucumbers, as well as the jams, jellies, and tomato sauces served at Romanian meals? Come help us make whatever is in season either from our fields, or from the local farmer's market, using generations old recipes.
Process Honey
This is not only a tasty, but also a very interesting experience. The Basa Family Farm has over 25 bee families and the honey they make is delicious. Help us extract the honey from the combs, all the while sampling the honey in the different stages. A truly sweet experience!

Making Palinka
I'm sure you're heard about, and tasted, the local "brandy". It's made from fermented fruits, and is quite an interesting process. Help us prepare fruits for fermentation, then double distill already fermented fruit to produce your own palinka. Yes, tasting is allowed!

Roasting Over Fire
Some of the tastiest meals, spreads and salads involve first roasting vegetables. From roasting eggplant to make vanata spread to softening peppers over a fire for pepper and vinegar salad, you'll learn the tricks of the trade for these mouth watering delights!
Bread Making
Most of us have made some form of bread before at home, but not this way! From a traditional wooden bowl for mixing and rising the dough, to a fire bread oven, to hitting the crust before cutting, this will be a new experience for all.
Traditional Meals
This is a perfect opportunity to get first hand experience preparing a traditional Romanian or Hungarian meal. Learn directly from our chefs who will share their family recipes to make delicious breakfast, lunches and dinners for you to savour.
