On-Site Activities

Curious about how things were done over 100 years ago?
Find out with our daily interactive rural activities

Our wide variety of daily farm life activities is like no other guesthouse experience

Your afternoons will fly by as you participate in our fascinating and fun activities, all of which are part of every day life in Transylvania.  There's an activity every day of the week on a set schedule.  In addition to those listed further down the page, you may also help:

  • harvest fruits and vegetables from our fields

  • prepare century old recipes for our daily meals

  • hoe and water the fields and flowers

  • pick and arrange flowers for our dining table

  • relax in one of our garden seating areas

  • weed and prune our flower beds

Mondays
Goulash in big couldron in Transylvania
Hungarian Goulash

Come join us in making traditional style goulash in a large cauldron over an open fire. Gather and prepare ingredients from our fields and help with the 5 hour process.  It is on the menu for tonight's dinner along with delicious fresh baked bread from our outdoor bread oven.

Tuesdays
Transylvanian well with bucket
Tour a Rural Village

A real eye opening experience! See first hand traditional ways of life virtually unchanged for generations.  Visit a peasant home, learn about the Gypsy culture, experience a Maramures wooden church, and see the difference between Hungarian, Romanian and Gypsy cemeteries!

Wednesdays
Traditional Hungarian egg painting
Transylvanian Art

Painted plates, wood carvings and embroidery are all losing their importance to the younger Romanian and Hungarian generations.  Learn about the different styles, the meaning of the different symbols and colors, and be guided through painting your own plate or wood item.

Thursdays
Pickling cucumbers in Transylvania
Preserves

Have you noticed all the pickled cabbage, peppers, cucumbers, as well as the jams, jellies, and tomato sauces served at Romanian meals?  Come help us make whatever is in season either from our fields, or from the local farmer's market, using generations old recipes.

Fridays
Bees wax and honey with tools
Process Honey

This is not only a tasty, but also a very interesting experience.  The Basa Family Farm has over 50 bee families and the honey they make is delicious.  Help us extract the honey from the combs, all the while sampling the honey in its different forms.  A truly sweet experience!

Saturdays
Making palinka in Transylvania
Making Palinka

I'm sure you're heard about, and tasted, the local "brandy".  It's made from fermented fruits, and is quite an interesting process.  Help us prepare fruits for fermentation, then distill already fermented fruit to produce your own palinka.  Yes, tasting is allowed!

Tasting the fresh honey with the bee made wax is absolutely delicious!
